A long time has passed since the coal mine was closed but two of the original chimneys that symbolize Tagawa remain to this day. The Chikuho coalfield at one time boasted Japan's largest coal output. Coal as a source of energy was often referred to as “black diamond.”
Many companies rushed to join the booming coal mining industry where a lot of homes for coal mine workers were built side by side. This created a unique food culture and environment.Separate from Japan's most popular tourist spots, here in Tagawa we hope to introduce you to something different within the deep history of the area.
